Editorial Policy

Independence

No manufacturer can pay to change what we publish about it. That covers which company is behind a brand and what public records show about it, where its caravans are built, their weights and specifications, and the order brands and models appear in. If a manufacturer pays us for profile or enquiry tools, that changes none of the above.

Where our facts come from

• The company behind a brand: the Australian Business Register (ABN Lookup) and ASIC's published notices of administrator and liquidator appointments, matched to the company named on the brand's own website or in the business-name register. These records show a company is registered and has no notice against it; they can't show how a business is going day to day. We name the company and its ACN, and link the record. If we can't tie a brand to one company, we say so.
• Where a caravan is built: the manufacturer's own statements, Australian Made licensing and cited trade sources. If we hold no citable source, we say “Not yet confirmed”.
• Weights and specifications: manufacturers' published specs, or the maker itself if it has claimed its profile. If we don't hold a figure, we say so rather than estimate it. That doesn't mean the maker doesn't publish one.

Company checks are dated. We report what a record shows, in its own terms. We don't speculate about a company's finances or name individuals other than appointed administrators and liquidators.

How often we re-check

• Brands with a confirmed company, and brands we couldn't confirm: every quarter.
• A company in voluntary administration: every week.
• A company in liquidation: every month.

We update a brand straight away when we learn of a change between checks. If a company check is more than 4 months old, the brand's page shows only the date it was last checked, not a tick, until we check again.

Corrections and replies

If something we publish is wrong or out of date, email hello@thecaravandatabase.com with the page and what should change. We reply within 7 days, and we keep a record of every correction request and what we did about it.

Manufacturers can send us their own short statement about anything we publish about them. We publish it alongside our facts, in their words.
