Battery Ah to kWh converter

Makers often advertise batteries in amp-hours, but an Ah figure only tells you how much energy is stored once you know the voltage. Enter the number you have to put it on the same scale as any other battery.

Not sure? Check the maker's spec sheet.

Enter a battery size to see it in kWh.

How the conversion works

Multiply the amp-hours by the voltage, then divide by 1,000 to get kilowatt-hours.

For example, 400 Ah at 12V is 400 x 12 / 1,000 = 4.8 kWh. A 48V battery holds the same 4.8 kWh with only 100 Ah, which is why a smaller Ah number at a higher voltage isn't a smaller battery.

This converter uses the voltage on the label. A lithium battery's nominal voltage is a little higher, 12.8V for a 12V battery, so a maker's published kWh figure can be slightly above the result here.
